Tune Into True Love
3 minute read
There is a feeling of satisfaction in accomplishing a goal, finishing a task, doing things that bring reward and being true to our word. This gives a sense of structure in life, of being in control of ourselves.
When we speak of love we are often meaning an emotional feeling, a connectedness in relationship. Love, in reality has both of these components. It is ‘Relational ‘and ‘Structural’ at the same time.
Another way to say ‘Relationship and Structure’ in this context, is to say ‘Freedom’ and ‘Responsibility’.
When we are free we have choices, we are free to have vision and desire and are not under the control of others, we do things out of love, not obligation, or the ‘shoulds’ in life.
Responsibility on the other hand is structural. It is not emotional. It does the right thing in a relationship or situation. It is trustworthy and truthful. It creates a firm foundation, able to be built upon.
Imagine a relationship that is full of good feelings, making the heart soar without limits, inviting us into deeper connection and full of promise, but is irresponsible at the same time. They do not pay their bills, make promises they don’t keep, do not do the right thing in situations or in relationships, do not always tell the truth and do not allow your freedom.
We can easily see that one without the other is not loving and that both parts are essential.
Love requires both attributes, at the same time, for there to be true love.
