Roots And Fruits
3 minute read
Imagine you had a tree that kept bearing poor quality fruit.
It might be a dry, tasteless orange or an apple that rots in the middle before it’s ripe.
Perhaps the fruit is damaged by pests or disease and we do not want it seen so we hide it away.
The tree has not been strong enough to withstand the internal and external forces without the needed care.
Someone might be tempted to fix the fruit. Perhaps the orange could be pumped with water and sugar and colouring? The apple could be made to look good on the outside with a touch of wax and put in a fabulous fruit bowl?
We all agree though, that this is unacceptable as a way of life.
The real problem lies in the roots of the tree.
The same is true of our lives.
Spending a lot of time and energy making ourselves look good to others instead of really being good, is like trying to fix the fruit in our lives, instead of the hidden cause that lies deeper down .
It takes courage to attend to the roots of where pain has been hiding, to bring it out into the light of compassion and truth where love resides and to receive the good and keep it in and to disown the bad and keep it out.
The benefits of these choices far outweigh the cost of taking ownership, embracing humility and submitting to the process of growth. The ripple effect of this freedom goes out into our families and communities and leaves a legacy of wellbeing rather than the legacy of pain, perpetuated for generations.
I invite you to seek healing and nourishment for the roots of the tree!
