Challenge Your Thoughts!
3 minute read
Did you know that we can challenge our thoughts?
We can see if they stand up under scrutiny.
Are they logical? How do they make me feel?
Thoughts produce feelings .
When our thinking is negative or critical or accusing, our feelings will follow into a negative state also.
Very often it does not occur to us that what we are thinking can be captured and questioned. We tend to accept our thoughts as part of us and we allow them to direct our focus and lock us into a direction.
In reality, we can choose our thoughts. We can assess them and decide if they agree with what we believe and what we value.
If we find that the thought does not agree with my beliefs and what I value in life, I can assess my beliefs and values to see if they take me to where I would like to be in life. If they do, then I can choose to think only what lines up with what I believe and what I value in the situation. In this way we can align our thoughts and our beliefs and values in the one direction.
This action puts a boundary around my thoughts when they are not welcome or helpful. It means I can say no to what I am thinking and talk back to the inner critical thinking and take control of the direction of my mind.
I have the power to choose what I receive into my mind and what I allow my mind to focus on.
If I define what I am thinking and choose to protect my mind by lining up my thoughts with my beliefs and what I value, then this will protect my heart also and lead my feelings into greater stability.
After rejecting negative, critical or accusing thoughts I can then replace them with the truth of what I choose to value and what I choose to believe. I can fill my mind with what I want to have in my life not defaulting to the tyranny of distressing thoughts.
Our thoughts direct our lives.
If we find this difficult to do on our own or we find that we do not have the strength, or have unhealed trauma, we can seek out professional help
…to heal and build this internal muscle that develops with practice.
