The Greatest Split On Earth
3 minute read
There is a universal law that governs all relationships.
It is a law that people from every nation and language understand. Like music, it touches us and is immediately recognised.
It is the law of love.
I call it a law because it has its own power. We can either agree and work with it, or we can disregard its power to connect, sustain and motivate us into our best performance.
Love is commonly thought of as an emotional thing, something that is perhaps soft.
The reality is that love has two components. It has feeling and it has structure. It is powerful rather than soft.
We could say it in other ways such as;
*Bonding and Separateness, where I am relationally connected and belong to others, fuelled and stabilised by this attachment and… at the same time have my own separate identity, freedom to control myself and excel in the talents and purposes of my own life.
Or
*Relationship and Structure, within me, where I have the capacity to have a heart connection to others to give to and receive from and…at the same time, working within healthy structures for myself, not losing myself, while caring about those beside me.
Or
*Freedom and Responsibility, where I am free to choose the direction of my life, able to live and love according to my own values and beliefs, to create and envision my life and …at the same time, to be a person who uses this freedom responsibly, not ignoring the needs and desires of others, but able to empathise, hear and feel for others.
This is the description of love, that we do not split the two essential components.
When we split them, one without the other, I would suggest that it is the source of all disconnection, from within myself, my family, then to the community, to the businesses, city and region and on it may go?
Micro and macro, relationships of any kind that split the components of love will be unable to sustain health in the relational…
… or the performance and economic world!
